Readers Cumbria Cricket League Premier Division Champions Carlisle have re-signed club professional Michael Slack on a new two-year deal, through to the end of the 2022 season.

Slack, 25 came through the junior ranks at Carlisle and was a key member of the club’s 2019 championship winning team that brought their first title in 37 years to Edenside. In that campaign alone he totalled nearly 750 league runs at an average of 44 and captured 54 wickets at 12.

It’s been a frustrating summer at Edenside, with Slack and his Carlisle team mates being unable to defend their league title, but they will return refreshed in 2021, keen to impress and keep the championship silverware safely in the Carlisle trophy cabinet.

Slack commented on the new deal: “I’m very happy to have extended my contract at Carlisle, the club is in an excellent place and has been heading in the right direction for some time. We have some exciting young talent coming through and with the help of the experienced players, we can hopefully challenge for more titles in the years ahead.”

Carlisle’s club secretary Mark Davidson added: “ Michaels’ signing came on the back of many hard miles put in by skipper Marc Brown and the club’s five year club development plan, along with the outstanding work by our coaching teams, in producing a wealth of home-grown talent. Obviously we are all absolutely delighted at Edenside to have secured Slacky for another two years at least, as we look to defend the Premier League crown next season. Plans will be formulated in the next couple of months for all levels of cricket at Edenside as we make preparations for the 2021 season.”
