On the penultimate weekend of this truncated season, Carlisle Academy enjoyed an excellent 105 run victory over Keswick 3rd XI in the EVCL Sunday League at Edenside.

In warm, dry conditions captain Zach Du Plessis had no hesitation in deciding to bat after winning an important toss, and the skipper then led the way with the bat hitting 34 runs. He was ably supported initially by Connor Currie (21) then Aidan Turner with an excellent 47 not out as the hosts posted an imposing 142-6 from 36 overs. Ned Barnes returned 3 for 7 from 4 overs and was Keswick’s most successful bowler.

The Keswick batting crumbled after the interval and they were all out for 37 as Matthew Smith, William Teasdale, Aidan Turner and Sam Grieve led the Carlisle attack, each picking up a brace of wickets.

The win takes Carlisle level on points with Stainton 2nd XI at the top of the table, as an enjoyable, if ultimately shortened season reached its finale.

Carlisle 2nd XI host Lanercost 1st XI at Edenside on Saturday (2pm) in the EVCL North Division A, while the 3rd XI make the reverse trip to face Lanercost 2nd XI in North Division B.

The clubhouse bars will be open from 2pm on Saturday afternoon as the sun finally sets on the 2020 season at Edenside.
