For November, Orton Farmers’ Market is moving a few miles north to the centre of Shap. As required by COVID-19 restrictions, the Market will be very much focused on food producers such as Fat Flour Bakery, Deer ‘n’ Dexter meats, Knipey’s poultry and Winter Tarn butter and cheese.
“With Orton Market Hall closed for the November lockdown and the space constraints in the centre of the village, we were struggling to make things work safely and to reassure everyone,” says Leanne Duerden, Market Co-ordinator, “but our producers needed something to happen if at all possible. We’re delighted to have arranged with Shap Parish Council to hold a farmers’ market based in the Memorial Hall car park on our usual Saturday and hope that as many of our regular shoppers as possible will be able to support local producers in tough times.”
Orton Farmers’ Market at Shap will open in the Memorial Hall car park (CA10 3NL) at 9am on Saturday 14 November and producers will be there until 2pm. There will be signposting from Junction 39 of the M6.
