In July 2020, several human bones were discovered on the beach at Thorny Nook, Biggar Bank, Walney.
A police investigation was commenced and the bones were subsequently recovered and examined by a Forensic Anthropologist.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The result of the examination has been received and Investigating Officers can confirm that all the bones are non-recent, expert opinion dates them between the years 1440 to 1640.
“OIC Detective Constable Sarah Knight would like to acknowledge all members of the public involved in the discovery, their diligence assisted the enquiry.
“The police investigation has now been finalised and all relevant information forwarded to the County Archaeologist.”
