15,000 items donated to foodbanks thanks to Booths customers

Shoppers at Booths stores in Cumbria have helped donate 15,000 items to foodbanks across the region.

The family supermarket, which has 27 branches across the North West including in Penrith, Keswick, Kendal, Windermere, Kirkby Lonsdale, Milnthorpe and Ulverston  launched its Buy One Give One Free initiative in November.

A range of qualifying items in the stores allow customers to pick up another for free, which they can then donate at the store’s food bank collection point after checkout.

Every Booths store is partnered with a local food bank in their area and this enables donations to be tailored to the needs of the local community.

Linda Sutherland, the manager of Kendal’s Kings Food Bank said, “The donations we receive are vital to our work in the local community.

“The link we have with Booths is important in the work of the food bank.  We are constantly in need of sponge puddings, UHT semi-skimmed milk, instant pasta, instant noodles, instant mash, tins of rice pudding, custard and large tins of vegetables.”

“Just nine weeks into 2020, we have supplied over 12,000 meals to individuals and families in the local area.

“The number of people we are supporting has increased significantly over the last 12 months and we are supporting more families than in previous years.”
