A driver who caused the deaths of a father, his two children and family dog on Father’s Day has today been jailed for ten years six months at Preston Crown Court

A driver who caused the deaths of a father, his two children and family dog on Father’s Day has been jailed for ten years and 10 months at Preston Crown Court.

David Logan was also disqualified from driving for 16 years and five months.

Logan, 48, of Broughton Road, Dalton pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to three counts of causing death by dangerous driving, driving over the prescribed limit of alcohol and criminal damage which is in relation to the death of the family’s dog.

The court heard that on June 21 last year at about 2.30pm Logan was driving a silver Peugeot 206 on Abby Road towards Dalton.

Logan mounted the kerb colliding with pedestrians, Joshua James Flynn, Skylar Flynn, Coby-Jay Flynn and their pet dog Troy who all sadly died at the scene.

Officers conducted a roadside breath test on Logan who tested as 63 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Sergeant Jack Stabler said: “I hope that today’s sentencing will provide some comfort for the Flynn family as I know this tragic incident has changed their lives forever.

“I would like to thank the Flynn family for the trust that they have placed in Cumbria Police and their patience throughout the last 10 months. This has been an incredibly difficult investigation for the family and officers involved and I would like to thank them all.

“I must also thank all emergency services who were the first responders to this collision and all the members of the public who assisted with first aid and a wealth of enquiries.

“This is a clear and strong reminder to everyone who gets behind the wheel of a vehicle that it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians around you.

“Please do not risk driving after consuming any amount of alcohol. Drink driving is a serious offence and this case clearly demonstrates that the consequences can be fatal.

“Our thoughts are with the Flynn Family & Cumbria Police will continue to support them through this difficult time.”
