Whitehaven Rugby League Club has announced a reorganisation of its board, following a disappointing start to the Betfred Championship season.
Lauren Allen becomes a club director, alongside former general manager Amanda Hewer, who joins the board in an advisory and compliance role.
Meanwhile Andrew Canavan steps down as a director and will now take up the new role of chief executive officer.
Lauren said: “I’m excited to take up my new position on the board after having a role in the club for the last nine months, looking after health and safety requirements and setting up the new Junior Fanclub.
“While I will continue to carry out these roles, I will also be focusing on working with the many community groups and grassroots clubs in the area, involving them in what we do at the club and building on our family friendly ethos.”
The shake-up comes with Haven having won just two of their first 10 fixtures. Defeats include a 66-0 hammering at home by league leaders Toulouse Olympique in May.
The club have made two further appointments: Grant Taylor joins a non-executive officer advising on boardroom governance, while club legend Craig Calvert is welcomed back as an ambassador.
The LEL Arena – formerly known as the Recreation Ground – also has a new bar manager, with Ingrid Eilbeck stepping into the vacant position.
A spokesman for the club said: “A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes by the board recently to firstly identify how we intend on moving forward and, secondly, ensuring that we recruit what we believe to be the right people to take us on that journey.
“We wish to extend our personal thanks to all our loyal fans for their continuous support and we sincerely hope that they all get behind our new direction.”
Five directors, including then chairman Tom Todd resigned from the board recently.
