Workington Reds stalwart Steve Durham thought he’d take in a day’s cricket and support Cumbria in their NCA Trophy tie at Barrow.
But the former secretary/director and lifelong fan got more than he bargained for watching the dramatic win over Suffolk.
It all started when Paul Hindmarch initiated the Cumbria fightback in a crucial partnership with his Cockermouth team-mate Matthew Sempill.
Steve said: “Paul put on a great show with both bat and ball, inconveniencing some spectators along the way.
“His knock of 52 included five sixes, two of which smashed through car windscreens and two more landed in the hospital car park.
“The first six shattered the back window of a Jaguar whilst his second did considerable damage to my windscreen!
“He must have mistimed the first two as the next two went about 20 yards further.
“My car was towed away as it was unfit to drive but I managed to hitch a lift home with Gilbert Johnstone another Reds and cricket fan.”
The victory put Cumbria into the semi-finals where they will be at home to Cambridgeshire on August 8, probably at Keswick.
Cambridgeshire topped the group in which Suffolk finished runners-up so the Cumbrians will have some form guide.
