Former Workington Comets star Ulrich Ostergaard is recovering after a horror crash at Edinburgh on Friday.
The Dane, who was in stunning form for Premiership high-flyers Peterborough and Championship leaders Glasgow, suffered a broken wrist and a back injury, and is awaiting more news from hospital this week.
He said: “I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone for the get well wishes and messages. It was a bad way to end the meeting at Edinburgh and I don’t remember anything about it.
“I’ll come back as soon as possible and hopefully the doctors can tell us more this week.Again, thanks for everyone’s concern and I look forward to seeing everyone hopefully soon.”
Ostergaard rode for the Comets in 2007 and former team manager Tony Jackson remembers the signing well.
Workington’s number one Carl Stonehewer had been injured at Edinburgh in the Scottish Open and Jackson suggested to owner Tony Mole, who also ran the Birmingham track, that the Brummies Ostergaard would be a natural replacement at Derwent Park.
Jackson, who was in his first year as team manager, said: “I have remained good friends with Ulrich ever since and we always have a good chat when we bump into each other.
“I sent his a message after hearing of his crash on Friday night and hope he’s soon recovered.”
