Furness were able to extend their lead at the top of the Cumbria League’s Premier Division.
For while they were able to get in a game and beat contenders Carlisle, main rivals Keswick and Cockermouth were beaten by the weather.
Cockermouth were 10-0 after three overs against Dalton when rain prevented any more play while Keswick never even got started at Lindal Moor.
Furness and Carlisle played in the south of the county and after a delayed start the visitors had 32 overs to bat, in which they reached 133-7.
Jonathan Davidson (26) and Marc Brown (21) were the leading scorers with Garry Thompson (2-17), Wyll Stanway (2-20) and pro Promod Maduwantha (2-28) sharing the bowling honours.
The Furness target was revised to 135 in their 32 overs and they got there with an over to spare.
Nathan Waterston(37) and Ryan Griffiths (26) put on 49 for the opening wicket but it was really a brutal 38 not out off 25 balls from Mark Daly (four fours and a six) which put Furness into their winning position.
That defeat virtually rules-out Carlisle from reclaiming the title as it now seems to be down to a three-horse race.
Furness 128, Keswick 117, Cockermouth 111, Carlisle 108 lead the way but Cockermouth do have that game in hand at home to Lindal Moor.
At the bottom Lindal Moor are just two points behind Whitehaven but do have that game in hand.
Whitehaven got in a game at Wigton and probably wish the weather had taken a hand as they were bowled-out in 22.5overs for 52. Matthew Harrison top-scored on 14.
Glen Liddle did most of the damage with 6-19 from his 10 overs, backed up by Matthew Hodgson with 3-25.
Wigton knocked-off the runs in 12.2 overs for the loss of three wickets with opener John Reed (27) top-scoring.
Workington didn’t exactly have the best preparation for today’s Higson Cup final as they were beaten convincingly at home by Haverigg.
Put in to bat Workington made a decent start and were 42 off ten when pro Sachin Jayawardena came on and took three wickets (3-8) but at 64-5 it rained and reduced the game by ten overs.
The hosts were eventually all out for 125 in 38.3overs with extras top scoring on 32 followed by Ryan Clubley (23).
Duckworth Lewis recalculated the reply to 121runsneeded off 45 and Haverigg ground their way to 121.3 off 35.4 with Jayawardana 25 not out. Workington pro Lahiru Dilshan took 2-24.
The sixth game, between Millom and Cleator was rained-off with no play.
