The effects of COVID-19 continue to disrupt the Cumbria section of the National Conference’s regional competition.
Already well behind schedule, two more of the games were called-off because of outbreaks – at Hensingham (v Wath Brow) and Millom (v Barrow Island).
It left only the one game, but it proved to be a cracker as Kells beat West Cumbrian rivals Egremont 28-24.
New Egremont coach John Wells would be disappointed not to register his first win in charge as the visitors led 18-12 at half-time.
Kells, who scored five tries, also had to play for ten minutes after having centre Lewis Smith sent to the sin bin.
They took the lead on 11 minutes with a try from Scott Lofthouse which their eventual man of the match James Ennis converted.
But it only took five minutes for the visitors to level with a try from Jack Thompson, converted by Billy Thompson.
Kells regained the lead on 28 minutes with a try by Lewis Smith, converted by Jordan Burns before two tries in the space of three minutes before the break gave Egremont the advantage.
Fraser McNee and Tom Horner crossed and Billy Thompson added the extras to both.
Four minutes into the second-half Billy Thompson added to the lead with a penalty.
On the hour Reece O’Neill scored an unconverted try for Kells and three minutes later came a piece of magic which turned the game.
Young James Ennis went on a 50 yard run, beating five Egremont players to score a super try which Jordan Burns converted to give Kells the lead.
On 69 minutes William Ennis also crossed for the hosts, converted by Burns, and although Leon Crellin scored a try five minutes from time Kells held onto their advantage.
