Whitehaven have announced the departure of two players who have hardly figured in the Championship for them.
Forward Dean Zammit is joining League One club Hunslet while winger James Worthington is taking a break from the game.
Zammit, a 28-year-old Australian forward, with a Maltese passport, came through the Penrith Panthers Junior system and played semi pro for the St Mary’s club in the Ron Massey Cup Competition for a number of years.
After signing he said: “I’ve had a go in France before but really fancied giving the English game a go. It’s something I was always wanting to sample.”
He has represented Malta on nine occasions, something he is really proud of as his father’s parents are from Malta.
Opportunities at Whitehaven have been limited with injuries holding back his progress to start with.
The 21-year-old Worthington scored two tries on his Wigan debut in 2017 and spent time on loan at Toulouse, London Skolars, Swinton, Rochdale and Workington before joining Oldham last year.
He was injured in the opening game of the season at Dewsbury and has not figured since.
Confirming the departures a Whitehaven spokesman said: “The club is continuing the search to strengthen the squad for next year and hope to provide some positive news shortly.”
