The Derwent Valley Federation has abandoned plans to race from Appleton in midweek.
Poor weather forecasts along the line of flight have meant it would be too risky to stage a race and they are now looking at the weekend.
However, the anticipated link-up with the West Cumberland Federation to stage the first West Cumberland Amalgamation race is not going to happen.
West Cumberland has stated that they are going to liberate from Appleton on their own after a successful race from there at the weekend.
The Derwent Valley has only been as far as Charnock Richard (20 miles shorter) and will have their own separate race from Appleton this weekend.
But at the moment the weather threatens to throw a spoke in both wheels with doubts over conditions from Friday through to Sunday.
A DVF spokesman said: “We are watching the weather closely. Things change from day to day but the vice presidents will decide on what we are going to do and as soon as they do our members will be informed.”
If both organisations can get Appleton out of the way this weekend the Amalgamation programme should complete the young bird season – Stafford (August 28); Wollaston (September 4) and Cheltenham (September 11).
