Former Workington Comets number one Richard Lawson hasn’t had to wait long for a new club following the closure of Eastbourne Eagles.
Plymouth have moved quickly to sign Lawson following the withdrawal of their Championship rivals from this year’s competition.
Lawson comes in for the Gladiators at the expense of Jason Edwards and is set to make his debut at Leicester tonight.
Promoter Mark Phillips said: “I’m delighted that Richard is joining us for the remainder of the season. He is an exciting rider and will bring even more experience to the team.
“He has already guested for us on a few occasions so knows our set-up well. We have now been able to construct the team around actual averages instead of assessed ones.”
Last night Lawson helped Glasgow climb back to third place in the Championship with a comfortable 54-36 win over Berwick.
A former Tigers favourite he proved an able deputy for his former Workington team-mate Craig Cook with 12+1. Cook is taking a break from the sport because of mental health issues.
British Under-21 Champion Tom Brennan, a team-mate of Lawson’s at Eastbourne, has signed for Glasgow after making a guest appearance for the Tigers in the win over Berwick.
As well as being without Cook, Glasgow have also been riding without another ex-Workington star Ulrich Ostergaard currently side-lined through injury.
