A man has been given a restraining order and a curfew after he assaulted a police officer and harassed a woman.
Gavin Newman, of Blencowe Street in Carlisle, appeared before the city’s magistrates’ court on Tuesday and admitted a charge of harassment without violence and one charge of assaulting a police officer by beating.
Newman subjected his victim to a course of harassment between May 18 and June 10 which involved sending messages, leaving voicemails and attending her address.
The 42-year-old also assaulted a police officer by beating at Blencowe Street on June 11.
Newman was given a restraining order banning him from contacting his victim for the next 12 months and he was given a six-week curfew. He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
