Former Workington Zebras hooker Jamie Blamire has been named in the England squad for a training camp later this month.
Head coach has included the 23-year-old in a group of 45 players to attend the intensive get-together from September 26-28 in Teddington.
Blamire started his rugby career with the Zebras and alsoplayed rugby league for Seaton Rangers.
Now with Newcastle Falcons after switching from Tynedale, Blamire won his first two England caps earlier this year against the USA and Canada, scoring an eye-catching hat-trick of tries in the second game.
He had made his England debut in the game against the USA, coming on as a replacement and scoring a try. He is one nine players who debuted in the summer to be retained.
Jones has called up eight uncapped players – Mark Atkinson, Jack Kenningham, Louis Lynagh, Gabriel Oghre, Raffi Quirke, Sam Riley, Bevan Rodd and Ollie Sleightholme.
The England coach said Blamire and the others had fully justified their latest call-up.
“This is an exciting squad made up of experienced players and young guys who did well in the summer and earned their place again,” he said.
“We have left out some experienced players but we’re really clear that the door isn’t closed to them, and we’re looking forward to seeing them work hard to get back into contention.
“We have five campaigns now until the 2023 World Cup so each one counts, and this is a chance for this 45 to impress the new coaching staff.”
The camp will contribute to England’s preparations for November’s autumn internationals against Tonga, Australia and South Africa.
