Gary Charlton has stressed that his nomination for Championship Coach of the Year is a reflection on the whole club – not just himself.
Charlton, who faces competition from Simon Grix (Halifax) and Craig Lingard (Batley) to win the award, says he is just the figurehead.
“As I see it the nomination is for the whole club and how well they have performed throughout the season.
“The players have been great and it’s also for the whole coaching and backroom staff, the directors and the fans as well,” he said.
Charlton, who takes on the position of director of rugby next season, takes his buoyant Whitehaven side to Halifax tomorrow looking to prolong his head coaching role for at least another week.
There’s only one change to the 21-strong squad that was named for the Bradford game last week.
Stand-off Karl Dixon, who was committed to a pre-booked family holiday, returns but full-back Gregg McNally has to miss out with a hamstring injury suffered at Bradford.
“We beat Halifax at home quite recently and we played very well on that day. To be fair we’ve been playing like that for most weeks and we just have to go out there and do it again.
“They like to throw the ball about so we will have to defend well against that but we are going there with a chance,” he said.
