A Workington sports club has unveiled its £24,000 solar panel system.
Workington Zebras kicked off their first home game of the season by unveiling their new solar panels, which they hope can provide an energy boost to the season.
The 30kW system cost £24k and was installed by local off-grid specialist PHE Off-Grid Systems with support from Robin Rigg Community Fund.
Club chairman David Exley said: “We’re delighted to have been able to install solar which means we can play our part in tackling climate change and invest more in youth rugby development. Our club works with a lot of young people and we want to play our part in building a future fit for them.”
Eighty solar panels were installed onto the roof of the grandstand, which will reduce the club’s electrical consumption from the grid and its carbon emissions by around 6,000 kg/year.
It is estimated the club will save £2,400 a year which helps the financial stability of the club which has been affected by coronavirus.
