Windscale kept their unbeaten run going with a battling 0-0 draw last night at Shildon Reserves.
They had travelled for themed-week Wearside League clash with a depleted squad of 13 players due to injury, sickness and work commitments.
The well-earned point came after a spirited performance kept their eight-game unbeaten run intact.
Windscale made the better start to the game and were unfortunate not to take the lead in the second minute from a corner with a header by Matty Pierce.
Then continuing the lively start a powerful run from Lewis Jolly ended with his shot narrowly missing the target.
Both teams were playing an expansive game creating opportunities at both ends of the pitch.
Set pieces particularly corner kicks were becoming important in the fixture with Shildon coming close in the 29th minute and Windscale in the 36th, again with a header from Pierce.
But a lively first-half ended with neither side able to break the stalemate.
The second period produced a mirror image of the first with both teams looking for that elusive breakthrough.
Windscale had another header just past the post from Matt Metcalf but then they needed a superb save from keeper Ian Studholme to keep them level.
When the ball was delivered up field from a goal kick it was whipped in from wide taking a wicked deflection off a defender leaving Studholme to thank for denying Shildon what looked like a certain goal.
The game drifted towards the final whistle with neither team able to get on the scoresheet.
However, Windscale will be delighted to earn a good point away from home, the team digging deep to see-out the game out. Bryan Todd proved to be the visitor’s man of the match with a sterling performance.
