Workington Magistrates Court

A 62-year-old woman has been sentenced after she admitted assaulting a police officer, possession of cannabis and sending a threatening or offensive message.

Julie Thompson, of Beckside Close in Cockermouth, appeared before Workington’s magistrates’ court on October 13 and was sentenced for the three offences after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.

The first offence put to Thompson was sending a message on a public electronic communications network that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character. This happened on September 6 in Cockermouth.

On the same day, Thompson assaulted a police officer by beating her. She was also found in possession of cannabis on September 6.

Thompson, 62, was given a community order requiring her to take part in 15 rehabilitation days, was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
