Jake Moore is returning to Whitehaven for the 2022 Betfred Championship season – his third stint with the club.

The 25-year-old second-row forward left the club ahead of the 2021 season to join the Ottawa Aces to fulfil his dream of playing as a full-time professional as they were due to join League One.

The pandemic delayed the Aces’ introduction to the League and with Haven having a full quota he signed with neighbours Workington Town for a third time.

He helped Town secure promotion to the Championship for 2022 but has now decided to war the chocolate, blue and gold again under new head coach Jonty Gorley.

Gorley said: “It’s great to have Jake back at Whitehaven. Before he left he was one of our better players in 2019 and he can cover a couple of positions, back-row or centre which will be good.

“He will be a great addition to the squad and the good thing with Jake is, he is a great lad who brings no baggage, plus he will be one of the fittest in the squad there’s no doubt about that. So it’s good to have Jake back at Whitehaven.

“Moore shone in Whitehaven’s successful 2019 season despite being limited to only 15 appearances that year due to injury. He scored 11 tries and 51 goals which led to him being named in Rugby League World’s League One team of the season.

Speaking to the club about signing for his third spell at the LEL Arena Moore said: “I’m happy and excited to be back with Whitehaven. It’s my hometown club that looks like it’s building after a brilliant year.

“The reason why I left at first was to fulfil a full time roll at Ottawa but that wasn’t meant to be due to COVID.

“I’ve got some good mates that play at the Whitehaven club which I’m looking forward to getting back playing and training with.

“Another big thing for me personally was coming back playing under Jonty. He did a lot for me in my progression in 2019 and I can’t wait to play under him again in 2022. Looking forward to getting back into pre-season with everyone.
