Workington’s record-breaking striker Scott Allison has suffered another injury set-back – in his sleep!
It looks as though the free-scoring Allison damaged his shoulder while turning over in bed, and he now faces a career-stalling operation.
Allison has hardly played this season because of a persistent shoulder problem, and also a torn calf, which means that Reds have had to go into action the majority of the time without him.
Manager Chris Willcock said: “I told him he must have been dreaming and celebrating a goal because it happened in his sleep.
“Unfortunately it’s looking now as if an operation is going to be needed. Scotty is feeling increasingly frustrated by it all and wants it done.
“We will have to assess the situation and see how long that it’s going to take for him to have an operation and complete his rehab. Depending on the length of time he is going to be out will depend on whether we have to bring in someone.”
Allison’s goals have certainly been missed this season as he has struggled for fitness. Ironically he had returned to the squad for last Saturday’s game with Runcorn Linnets and got 20 minutes at the end.
He has been among a long list of Workington players who have been side-lined at some point because of injury,
“One of the problems with the injury list is that we can’t field a settled team. I have been unable to keep an unchanged line-up and in all my time in the game I’ve never known anything like it,” said Willcock.
Reds training session at Penrith last night was cancelled because of road conditions for the travellers. The M6 was closed for Willcock and players who travel by car from Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Hopefully they will train tomorrow, as they have no game, and have two more sessions next week before they travel to new League leaders Mossley on Saturday.
