Mixed fortunes for Carlisle and Barrow in FA Cup draw

Carlisle and Barrow had mixed fortunes in last night’s draw for the second round of the FA Cup.

After their 2-0 home win over non-League Horsham on Saturday, Carlisle picked-up a second tie at Brunton Park, this time against League One strugglers Shrewsbury Town.

Barrow, however, were drawn away for a second successive time and will travel to the winners of the tie between Ipswich Town and Oldham Athletic.

The Furness side had won 4-0 at Banbury on Saturday and will have to wait for the outcome of the replay before knowing their destination.

Oldham will host that replay after they fought hard for a 1-1 draw at Ipswich.

Shrewsbury, who will visit Carlisle, fell behind at non-League Stratford on Sunday but came back to win well, 5-1.

In League One, Shrewsbury are currently just inside the drop zone on goal difference with four wins and three draws in their 16 matches.

Ipswich, who were expected to beat Oldham, are 9th in League One just four points below the play-offs. The Latics are in the League Two relegation dog fight with Carlisle.

Winners of the second round – to be played on the week-end of December 3 – will be rewarded with £34,000 in prize money, as well as a spot in the third round draw and the chance to take on a Premier League or Championship club.
