
The Cumbrian derby between Whitehaven and Workington Town will have a big audience next season.
The clash at the LEL stadium on Easter Sunday, April 17, is one of the which first 12 televised Championship games in 2022 have been announced today.
Regular league-wide live coverage of the Championship returns to TV screens for the first time since 2013 through Premier Sports.
All the other 11 games are Monday night fixtures but because of the appeal of the rivalry which exists between the two west Cumbrian clubs, the derby was a natural pick.
Games will be shown live on Mondays at 7.45pm and all games up until the end of May have now been confirmed.
The Cumbrian derby between Whitehaven and Workington Town is the only exception, with their clash being televised live on Easter Sunday.
It starts with York hosting Featherstone on January 31, while Featherstone are also on the following week when they host Leigh.
Widnes and Leigh are the most selected sides in the first 11 fixtures.
The Vikings will appear four times; once at home to Barrow and away at Dewsbury, Newcastle and Sheffield; while Leigh play Bradford, Halifax and Batley after their initial showing at Featherstone.
Whitehaven, who finished a highly commendable sixth in the Championship last season, open up at Leigh on January 29th with the first home game, a derby against Barrow on February 6.
The return at Barrow is on July 10 while the return fixture with Town at Derwent Park is on September 4.
Workington start at home to Newcastle Thunder on January 30 and the following week make the trip to Widnes and a reunion with their former winger and top try scorer Brad Holroyd.
Their derby games with Barrow are: May 15 (away) and June 12 (home).
Barrow start the season on January 30 with a home game against Sheffield.
