Spectacular Dane Peter Kildemand, who made his name in British speedway with Workington Comets, is returning to England next season.
King’s Lynn have pulled off four new signings to revamp their team for the 2022 Premiership and Kildemand is one of them.
The 32-year-old had his first two seasons in England with Workington Comets, 2010 and 2011, where he became a big crowd favourite through his aggressive style of racing.
For the next four years he rode for Coventry Bees; came back in 2018 to ride for Poole Pirates and now after another four-year break is back again, this time with King’s Lynn.
Kildemand was recommended to Workington promoter Ian Thomas by keen speedway fan Tony Jackson, who went on to become the Comets team manager.
“He proved to be a really exciting rider for the Comets and his all-action style earned him the nickname, Spiderman,” said Tony.
“After leaving the Comets he has enjoyed a very good career and has won grand prix meetings as well as representing his country.
“I believe he signed for Belle Vue ahead of the 2020 season but of course that was eventually cancelled because of Covid. It’s good to see he’s coming back to Britain with King’s Lynn,” said Jackson.
He had ridden regularly at home in Denmark and also in Poland and Sweden.
He’s joined by Australian ace Josh Pickering plus British duo Richie Worrall and Jack Thomas.
They will link up with a former homegrown Workington product in Richard Lawson, Thomas Jorgensen and Lewi Kerr as the Stars look to bounce back from a miserable 2021 when they finished bottom.
Manager Alex Brady said: “Overall I’m really, really pleased with how we have built the 2022 side.
“We’ve not gone for an ‘out-and-out No.1’ like Ipswich have with Jason Doyle, but we’ve followed the strength-in-depth approach with almost five or six No.5s, and our three starting heat-leaders all have potential to improve their average.
“The strength-in-depth approach is something which leaves us with a strong reserve all season long, meaning that if a member of our top five is having an off night, we have suitable replacements, something we did not have the luxury of in 2021.”
