Cleator Moor Celtic picked up another vital win in the North West Counties League.
They beat Ilkley Town 3-0 at Inglethorpe to move up three places in the League One North table.
Manager Martin Mahone said: “If ever there was a six pointer this was it and as the day turned out was especially valuable as a number of games in our League were postponed through the weather.
“We really were dominant in the first-half and on the front foot from the first whistle. Our right wing back Jack Hunter seemed to set the tone, winning tackles and getting forward at will.”
Indeed it took only five minutes for Celtic to take the lead when a neat passing move ended with Josh Charlton firing home.
Celtic dominated possession and created a number of chances but didn’t take one until a minute before the break when Charlton got on the end of a dangerous cross to head home.
“We were against a strong wind in the first half and really we enjoyed most of the possession so that they didn’t see much of the ball.
“In the second half we didn’t handle the wind advantage as well so that they had a bit more possession, without seriously bothering us,” said Mahone.
When Celtic were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute Jordan Little drove home the third and the points were in the bag.
Celtic will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Holker Old Boys for a Cumbrian derby.
Holker are currently top of the League, a point better off than Bury AFC from one extra game.
The south Cumbrians should have played at third-placed Golcar (only a point behind as well) but the clash was postponed.
