Clubs and groups can apply for up to £2,500 to support projects which help reduce crime.
The police and crime commissioner can distribute grants from the Police Property Fund, which aims to redistribute money confiscated from criminals and places it back into local communities.
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall said: “We are currently welcoming applications to the Property Fund and would like to encourage the public to apply for up to £2,500 to help support community projects and local charities.
“These grants can make a real difference to clubs and groups, and it is essential that wherever we can, we support our local voluntary groups that provide such a wide range of activities within our communities.
“It’s good to know that money received from the ill-gotten gains of criminals, can be placed back into our communities, where it is needed most.
“It is vital that we support early intervention programmes aimed at reducing the risk of young people becoming involved in anti-social behaviour and criminal activities.”
Megan Pettit, manager at Penrith Pumas Wheelchair Rugby Club, said: “Our club is the only Paralympian full contact sport played here in Cumbria.
“We are making the impossible, possible for those living with impairments to get involved in sports again.
“Our grassroot club was set up 2020, which has only been made possible through community grant schemes, such as the Police Crime Commissioner’s Property Fund.
“The Property Fund enabled the club to purchase additional equipment, therefore meaning we could involve more members of the local and wider community.”
