World Interfaith Harmony Week to be celebrated in Cumbria

The World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) was unanimously adopted by the UN United Nations in 2010 with the aim of uniting all people of faith under the umbrella of peace and harmony.

To celebrate this year’s WIHW, South Lakeland Equality and Diversity Partnership (SLEDP) will hold a series of events led by a 92-year-old retired Roman Catholic priest in South Lakeland between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on February 2.

People are also invited to take part in their own practice at 7am and 7pm for half an hour daily from February 1 to February 7, which could include singing, meditation or reading.

Programme Timetable – February 2

  • 2.30pm – 2.50pm Silent Meditation or Prayer
  • 2.50pm – 3.10pm Study Session
    The Priest will study Psalms 86, 98 and 145 (Psalm numbering according to The Catholic Bible)

  • 3.10pm – 3.25pm Silent Meditation or Prayer
  • 3.25pm – 3.30pm Prayer and Blessing
    The Priest will recite The Lord’s Prayer which starts Our Father…

  • People are welcome to recite any prayer or chant
    The Priest will recite as a Blessing a Benediction Prayer (The Bible Numbers 6:24-26)

    And Give You Peace.
