Barrow have added to their squad with a third loan signing for the rest of the season.
Leicester City forward Jacob Wakeling, 20, has joined the Cumbrians in their fight to move away from the fringes of the relegation zone.
Wakeling has been with The Foxes since November 2020 when he won his first professional contract after scoring two in two games for the Under-23’s – both against Brighton.
He ended that season with ten goals for the Under-23’s and was one of the leading scorers in the competition.
His career had been turned round with a spell at Alvechurch after he had been released from his first pro club, West Brom.
While with Alvechurch he scored seven goals in eight games, including a hat-trick against Barwell, which attracted the attention of Leicester City.
They included a string of impressive performances both in a central striking role and from the wing, and his hat-trick was said to have been a particularly spectacular effort.
After sealing his dream move to the Premier League, Wakeling has been a regular member of City’s Under-23s side and started against The Bluebirds in the Papa John’s Trophy at The Dunes Hotel Stadium in November.
That’s where he caught the eye of Barrow manager Mark Cooper and the forward has been handed squad number 20.
He will go straight into contention for a Barrow debut in this weekend’s League Two game against Colchester United at The JobServe Community Stadium.
Colchester lost again last night, 2-0 at Forest Green and have plunged to third bottom – a point behind Barrow and three less than Carlisle.
