Cockermouth rugby union club is mourning the death of its popular president David Coulthard.
David, known as Claggy as he was known, had been a long-serving player, club captain and Cumbria County Cup winner when the Wasps took the trophy twice in successive years in the mid 1970’s.
Well known and liked throughout county rugby union circles, he had been affected by a serious illness for many years and which had curtailed his employment at Iggesund in Workington.
The Cockermouth club’s vice president Steve Stainton said: “It is with deep sadness that our president David Coulthard has passed away after a long illness.
“All our thoughts are with his wife Kath, daughter Julie and grandchildren Shane and Amkie who have devoted themselves to David’s care for many years.

“David has been president of Cockermouth Rugby Union club since 2003, before which he was a club captain and County Cup winner.
“David was inspirational. Under his guidance he has brought the club to where we are today,
“David’s legacy will always be a large part of the club and will live on for many years.”
The club will be paying its respects to David at Saturday’s home game against Tarleton.
