Abbeytown Ladies have kept their Women’s Summer League title race alive.
A sunny evening for football in the Andrea Buggy Women’s Summer League saw Abbeytown Ladies entertain Carlisle City Ladies and win 3-0.
In the hot conditions both teams started strongly, with chances at both ends.
However, Abbeytown were the first to score to settle them down.
The goal came from Abi Heaton following an in-swinging corner by Kayleigh Wharton.
Soon after Wharton herself scored from distance following a Chloe Grisedale ball down the right hand side channel.
Despite the home team having momentum, Abigail Telford came close on multiple occasions for City but it just wasn’t happening for the Blues’ striker.

Into the second half, chances kept coming but solid defensive displays from both teams kept the score at 2-0 to Abbeytown.
With five minutes to go, Wharton doubled her tally for the day following a long distance strike from Sadie Holliday which rebounded off both posts.
The result makes the summer league look interesting with many games still to play, as Abbeytown’s win halted an impressive start from City, and put pressure on the league leaders.
