The hot weather has produced changes to the programme for hound racing and pigeon racing enthusiasts.
There would have been a hound racing meeting tonight at Wardhall but because of the forecast temperatures the race has been put back 24 hours.
Conditions are expected to be cooler on Friday night when Wardhall will now stage its second meeting of the season, ahead of a return to Spadeadam on Saturday.
Cumbria Combine fanciers should have been racing again from Holmsley in the New Forest on Saturday but temperatures in the south are still expected to be very hot.
Local officials have decided to postpone the race in the best interests of the birds with forecast severe heat, and instead they will race from the Hampshire race-point a week on Saturday, July 4.
