The respective seconds strings of Penrith and Carlisle served up a points feast under the Winters Park floodlights.
Ninety points were scored in an entertaining, competitive, well fought game with a decent crowd in attendance.
Penrith had won the game at Carlisle two weeks earlier by 36-17 and this time were victorious by a similar margin 55-35.
The hosts set out their stall from the start by kicking-off and regaining possession. They put together a string of phases before Ryan Johnson crashed over for the opening try.
Penrith then looked to open the game out and impressed as they spread the ball and Carlisle appeared to be there for the taking but they came back strongly and made a real fight of it.
The lead changed hands four times in the opening quarter as the visitors scored a try by Callum Steele, converted by Steve Benson to lead 7-5.
Penrith hit back with a converted try of their own from Nick Dudson.
Carlisle came back with another try by Nathan Greenhow, which Benson converted, to lead by two points.
Then it was Penrith’s turn as livewire scrum half Tom Kirk gave his side the advantage with a sharp well taken try.
The home side then got on top and two quality tries from Ben Brookes pushed their lead out to 36-14 before the break.
Early in the second half Penrith continued to press and a try from Dylan Cowperthwaite and second from Dudson pulled the lead out to 48-14.
It looked as if it might be a cricket score but the visitors kept plugging away and their tenacity paid off when they scored a third try through Vince Lung, which on this occasion was converted by Jake Whittaker.
Penrith rang the changes on the field using all of their 24 man squad and they scored a ninth try. Good work by Nathan Allcock, followed by a rare Josh Dowson pass saw Chris Scrimgour scamper in for a try.
The final quarter of an hour belonged to Carlisle as they scored two well deserved tries from Greenhow and Tom Knowles, both converted by Benson.
Their efforts had made the score respectable which was a fair reflection of the game.
