Welcome surge in members for Carlisle Scouting groups

Scouting in and around Carlisle is welcoming more young people into groups.

A new group for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts has opened in Great Corby for the young people in the surrounding villages, with 35 girls and boys already signed up.

On Monday, the 123rd Carlisle Group in Upperby welcomed the newest section to Scouting when they opened a Squirrel Scout Drey.

Squirrels are open to boys and girls aged four and five and is the first new section to Scouting in 35 years. This is theĀ  first Squirrel drey in Carlisle.

Young people and volunteer leaders took pride in Scouting on Tuesday as they celebrated Founders Day by wearing they uniforms to school and work.

More than 12 schools took part. Founders Day is the celebration of Lord Baden-Powell’s birthday.
