Razzamataz Theatre Schools Stage Scholarship Winners 2021

Theatre schools in Carlisle, West Cumbria and South Lakes are again offering award-winning performing arts tuition for free to successful students.

Returning for the thirteenth consecutive year, Razzamataz South Lakes, Carlisle and West Cumbria are part of the national network of theatre schools and are delighted to announce that the scholarships in association with The Stage newspaper have officially opened.

There are almost 60 schools across the UK taking part, with the opportunity open to all young people from the ages of six to 18. Both existing students and those without formal training can apply for the chance to win a year’s worth of training at their local Razzamataz school, worth up to £855. This is in addition to the other opportunities, including taking part in the annual variety showcase, local performances and specialist workshops.

As well as being offered a free place, the scholarship can lead to experiences including the chance to attend The Stage winners’ party and photoshoot. It has also changed the lives of past winners, giving them the confidence to pursue their dreams.

With more than 22 years in the sector, Razzamataz has given many young people the confidence to achieve their dreams and ambitions, whether that is as a performer, health specialist, teacher or creative.

“After the various lockdowns and restrictions, we know there has been a huge dip in mental health in children and young people,” said Asha Richardson, Principal of Razzamataz South Lakes.

“Our teachers and staff are focused on helping children regain confidence and building their resilience,” added Debbie Mitchell, Principal of Razzamataz Carlisle.

“We hope to support our students to enable them to achieve whatever they want to in life,” said Matty Aitchison-Rayson, Principal at Razzamataz West Cumbria.

The audition process is simple and it allows children without formal training the opportunity to apply. Those entering just need to film themselves performing in any (or all three) of the disciplines that Razzamataz teaches, which are singing, dance and drama.

The demo does not have to be professionally filmed and the judges are looking for raw talent and potential that they know can be refined through professional training at one of the schools. Applicants will also complete a short form detailing why they would like to take this opportunity.
