Workington Town will parade both their new signings in the squad to face Batley Bulldogs at Derwent Park.

Welsh forwards, twins Connor and Curtis Davies are both likely to start after arriving match fit in West Cumbria from their stint in France with Villeneuve.

Town coach Chris Thorman is looking forward to seeing them making an impression and a contribution as his side look for their first Championship points of the season in the Sunday match (ko 2pm).

“I don’t think we got what we deserved at Dewsbury last week, although generally in this game you do get what you deserve. There were eight or nine 50-50 decisions which all went against us and made a difference to the score.

“But the performance overall was good and I think we are improving week to week. It’s another tough challenge against Batley but I feel we are ready for it and I’m looking forward to seeing our new recruits in action,” said Thorman.

Luke Broadbent, now on loan from Warrington for the rest of the season, also returns to the 21-strong squad after a bout of glandular fever and hepatitis.

But Town’s other loanees, Will Tate (Hull KR) and Dan Brewin (Warrington) have returned to their parent clubs, although they are likely to be back at Derwent Park in the future.

Another absentee will be Ciaran Walker who has been stood down due to concussion protocol and is unavailable.

It has also been confirmed that Hanley Dawson has left the club to rejoin the community game with his former club Millom. He has been chosen at loose forward for today’s game with Leigh East.

A popular forward since joining Town in 2019 he has been thanked for his services by the club and fans. He also wants to concentrate on things outside the professional game.

Curtis Teare, Dec O’Donnell and Stevie Scholey are all out but making significant progress towards a return while Jake Lightowler is the one long term absentee as he awaits knee surgery.

The Town squad is: Barnes, Broadbent, Bickerdike, Brown, Clarke, Clegg, Curtis Davies, Connor Davies, Doran, Fitzsimmons, Forber, Henson, Hutchings, O’Brien, Olstrom, Postlethwaite, Simons, Steele, Thomas, Weetman, Young.

The Batley squad is: Hodson, Johnson, Meadows, Reilly, Whiteley, Campbell, White, Gilmore, Gledhill,  Leak, Everett, Manning, Walshaw, Brown, Hooley, Blagbrough, Ward, Senior, Lillycrop, Morton, Kaye.
