It will be a special night in front of the TV cameras tonight for Barrow Raiders winger Shane Toal.

The Furness flier is preparing to make the 100th appearance of his pro career against York City Knights in the Betfred Championship’s televised game.

So far 96 have been for Barrow with three more for Scotland.

Toal says: “It should have come quicker but of course I missed out like everyone else for a year through Covid and I also had nearly a season out with a knee ligament injury.

“I’ve got two years left on my contract at Barrow so hopefully I can pile on a few more appearances for the club.”

Raiders have second row forward Jack Wells back in the squad as the 24-year-old has returned to the south Cumbrians from his parent club Salford whom he joined last year from Wigan.

In his early career with the Warriors he played 18 Super League games but also spent time on loan at Swinton and Toronto.

He will be a welcome addition to the Raiders forward ranks after some recent tough contests.

Danny Morrow is also included in the 21-strong squad to face an in-form York side who are currently third in the table behind the big two of Featherstone and Leigh.

After missing out since victories over London Broncos and Widnes Vikings, respectively, winger Will Oakes and half-back Jamie Ellis return to the York squad, Both are key players and return to full training after spells out of action through injury.

Ellis will be vying with in-form half-backs Brendan O’Hagan and Liam Harris, both having scored last time out against Whitehaven in the 30-12 victory at the LNER Community Stadium last weekend.

James Ford’s men will be travelling to Barrow for the first time since 2019 with the Knights winning both the away Challenge Cup tie as well as the Championship fixture between the two.

The Barrow squad is: Brooks, J. Carter, B. Carter, Crellin, Cresswell, Emslie, Eseh, Forster, Gillam, Iaria, Langtree, Morrow, Mossop, Ritson, Sammut, Shaw, Stack, S. Toal, Wells, Wheeler, Wood.

York: Marsh, Brown, Glover, Ogden, Oakes, O’Hagan, Ellis, Matongo, Jubb, Teanby, Clarkson, Pauli, Thompson, Davis, Dixon, Stock, Kirmond, Harris, Harrison, Towse, Porter.
