Work is set to start on the first phase of an ambitious project to regenerate Barrow.
Cumbria County Council and Barrow Borough Council have have secured £5.5 million to deliver the first phase of Marina Village project.
Marina Village will see 550 homes built on a former industrial site on Salthouse Road.
West Cumbrian firm Thomas Armstrong Construction has been appointed to remediate the first six hectares and demolition work and erection of fencing will begin next week.
This work will take place before the main remediation work begins in August and it is hoped the project will be completed by December.
The county council said: “While Thomas Armstrong Construction Ltd, will make every effort to minimise disruption, some noise and traffic delays will be inevitable during the project. They thank residents for their support and patience in advance of the project.”
