Children’s TV star turned award-wining painter Timmy Mallett has been cycling across Cumbria, following in the footsteps of famous artists.

He is attempting to cycle 1,900 miles around England and Wales and paint some of the scenes made famous by the likes of Turner.

Timmy has cycled all over the world to help inspire his painting and is known as the cycling artist.

He said: “Two hundred years ago you couldn’t travel to Europe with a dictator rampaging across the continent so Turner and others turned their attention to Britain.

“Today I’m on my bike carrying my paints – two months and 1,900 miles around England and Wales.”

He has visted Barrow, Ulverston, Silloth, Penrith, Brough, Ravenglass, Dalton, Windermere, Carlisle, St Bees among others on his adventure across Cumbria.

Timmy used to present the Wide Awake Club on TV-AM on ITV and had a hit with the song Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini in 1990.

He was famed for Mallett’s mallet, loud shirts and his catchphrases ‘Utterly brilliant’ and ‘blaaah’. He appeared in I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out of Here in 2008.

He has always been an artist and studied history of art at university.
