Lowca v Cockermouth (Ben Challis)

Lowca came from behind with an impressive second half performance to progress in the preliminary round of the Cumberland Cup.

The villagers trailed 8-6 at Cockermouth but came through strongly to book their first round place with a 32-20 victory.

Matthew Irving scored a try on debut for Cockermouth and there were also touchdowns for Jack Clarke, Jordan Herve and Alex Barton. Clarke kicked two goals.

But Lowca came through to win with tries from Finn Barwise (2), Mitchell Todd, Matthew Farrer and James McNally. Keith Campbell kicked four goals.

In the Premier Division champions Ellenborough proved too strong for Aspatria and in a symmetrical performance scored 34  points in each half to win 68-10.

Yet Aspatria had gone in front after only two minutes when Rocco Okesene went in for a try and added the conversion.

It didn’t take long for Ellenborough to hit back and on seven minutes Kevin Hoban crossed for their first try  and by half-time they had scored six more through Keenan Winter (2), Jordan Ostle (2), Niall Gray and Ryan Wilson.  Three of them were converted by Winter.

Ostle went on to complete his hat-trick; there was a couple from Rhys Burr while Zac Olstrum and Hoban added touchdowns. Winter took his tally to ten successful kicks.

Daryl Creighton went in for a second Aspatria try which was unconverted.

There should have been a second Premier Division game but Wath Brow A were unable to field a team at Distington and the result will be a 24-0 win for the unbeaten villagers.

Two games in the Holmen Iggesund First Division provided victories for Kells A and Ellenborough A.

It was only 16-6 at half-time when Kells A hosted Egremont A but the home side pulled away impressively to win 42-6.

Kells had opened-up a 16-0 lead with tries by Richard Marr (10 minutes), Ryan Starkie (21) and Dan Joyce (27), the first two converted by Kieran Fleming.

Three minutes before half-time Egremont were given some hope when Jason Burney got over for a try which was converted by Tom Haughton.

In the second-half Kells were able to score five more tries, three converted by Fleming, without reply.

Finn McCartney, man of the match Harry Watson and Clarke Chambers had all crossed by the hour mark, the second converted by Fleming.

On 68 minutes Fleming got in on the try-scoring by touching down, and also converting, while the final try came two minutes from time by Lloyd O’Neil with Fleming adding the extras.

Egremont battled well to the final whistle with Dawson Webster picking-up their man of the match award.

The other game was a bit tighter as Ellenborough A built on their 14-8 half-time lead at Seaton A to win 26-14.

Liam Wilson, Nick Burgess and Richard George scored the Seaton tries, one converted by Burgess.

For Elbra there were tries from Dylan Holm, Danny Healy, Nicky Harris, Ace Wedgewood and John Todd. Arron Lawson kicked two goals and Craig Dawson put over one.

Ethan Frazer was man of the match for Seaton with Craig Stubbs picking up the award for Ellenborough.
