Carlisle United have again reactivated their interest in Glasgow Rangers’ winger Josh McPake.
The Blues had expressed an interest during the January transfer window when former manager Keith Millen was looking to bolster his ailing squad.
But McPake, who had previously been on loan at Morecambe, opted to join Tranmere Rovers on another loan spell and played 14 games before the end of the season.
McPake, 20, is also reported to be on the radar of Stockport County, Crewe Alexandra, Colchester Utd and Crawley Town, not to mention Raith Rovers in his native Scotland.
He has previously spent short loan spells at Dundee and Morton, and also played 23 times on loan for Harrogate in 2021.
The Cumbrians are gearing up for another season in League Two after Paul Simpson kept them up following Millen’s departure and he appears to have been convinced that his club’s previous pursuit had been a worthwhile exercise.
So far they have signed Annan Athletic’s Carlisle-born midfielder Owen Moxon and Simpson could be ready to raid Scotland again.
McPake has now returned to Ibrox following his most recent loan stint at Prenton Park and his parent club have a big decision on what to do with him next.
He has been on the books at Rangers for his whole career to date and rose up through the youth ranks of the Glasgow giants.
The attacker has so far played once for their senior team and sources close to the player says he is desperate to impress new Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst.
