Former Cumberland seamer Richard Gleeson has been called up for the Twenty20 international series against India.
Gleeson, 34, now with Lancashire after a spell with Northants took a career-best 5-33 against Worcestershire Rapids in this season’s Blast.
Early in the season, as he recovered from injury, Lancashire gave Gleeson permission to test himself for Cumbria in their T20 campaign.
He played in four games and then figured for Lancashire, featuring with a key death-over to earn a dramatic tie with old rivals Yorkshire.
Gleeson, who made his Cumberland debut in 2010 played in 36 games for the county across five years, and took 95 wickets before joining Northants.
After joining Lancashire he had two years in which his appearances were limited because of back issues.
Hence the decision this season to concentrate on a T20 contract, which has now earned the bonus of selection for England.
England squad for T20 series: Jos Buttler (capt, wk), Moeen Ali, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Richard Gleeson, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Tymal Mills, Matthew Parkinson, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, David Willey.
