Eighteen-year-old Cumbrian Stan McAlindon has made his debut for Durham at the start of their County Championship game with Derbyshire.
The young pace bowler has been given his chance in the Division Two clash after some eye-catching performances with the second team, for whom he is the leading wicket-taker this season.
McAlindon is a former pupil of Trinity School in Carlisle and played his first cricket with the now defunct Great Corby club as a five-year-old.
He joined Carlisle where his talents were quickly recognised and he played for the first team in the Cumbria League Premier Division when he was only 15 years of age.
A talented all-round sportsman, who played in the age groups at Carlisle United, McAlindon prioritised his cricket and he was signed up for the Durham Academy four years ago.
The Carlisle secretary Mark Davidson said: “All of us at Edenside offer huge congratulations and wish Stan all the very best for his debut and the remainder of the season.”
McAlindon was presented with his county cap ahead of today’s game with Derbyshire by captain Scott Borthwick.
He was in familiar company, too, as close pal wicket-keeper Tom Mackintosh and opener Nic Maddinson were also making their debuts and were also presented with their caps.
There’s also a fellow Cumbrian in the team, former Penrith youngster Liam Trevaskis, 23, a left arm spinner who has been more often used by Durham in limited overs games.
