Great Britain survived a major scare to book their place in Saturday’s Speedway of Nations Final at Vojens.
West Cumbrian Dan Bewley, who was in the team that won the event last year, contributed six points to the GB total of 31.
But the defending champions had to go into the race-off against France in the semi-final last night, for the right to join Sweden and the Czech Republic in the Final.
Tai Woffinden and Bewley got the better of David Bellego and Dimitri Berge to ensure GB took the third qualifying place.
Co-boss Olly Allen said: “It was a tough night, and it was probably closer than people expected.
“One thing I have to say is Tai was excellent with 19 of our 31 points. It was a team effort, but Tai was fantastic. When the pressure is on and you need one guy to deliver, I don’t think there are many better.”
Bewley is back riding again after a spectacular over-the-fence crash in Poland last month and is also among the favourites for the British Final at Belle Vue on Monday.
