The league fixtures were the focus of attention again this week in the Derwent Valley Asbestos Removals & Demolition Services summer league.
In the only top flight fixture defending champion Kevin Basnett was showing previous season’s form as he whitewashed Workington’s Mark Tunstall.
The Seaton potter notched up breaks of 49, 44 & 42 along the way. Tunstall’s greatest resistance came in the third, but a 34 break from Basnett made the difference.
Basnett now sits two points behind the season’s front-runner Peter O’Hagan.
Seaton’s Stephen Jackson turned in another solid performance to defeat an improving Geoff Smith from Workington.
Jackson made a 31 break on his way to an unassailable 4-0 lead, but Smith claimed the high-scoring final frame as consolation. Jackson remains one point ahead of his nearest rival.
Whitehaven’s Andy Moore maintained the pressure on Jackson with a 4-1 victory of his own.
Moore made a break of 34 on his way to victory from 1-0 down to Workington’s Dave Chapman. Both players strongly contested the match throughout. Moore is in second spot with Chapman slipping a place to sixth.
Whitehaven’s Richard Kirkham completed two fixtures in the week, managing back-to-back 3-2 wins over rivals Darren Lawson and Paul Smith.
There were several black-ball deciders, but the double victory pushes Kirkham up to fifth spot. Lawson remains in third.
Seaton’s Paul Smith made amends for his defeat to Kirkham with a keenly contested 3-2 victory against division two title contender Chris Hunter with the match going all the way to the final frame. Hunter remains fourth and Smith stays seventh.
Next week sees a return to the DVARD qualifying group stages.
