Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on the A66, near the Durham border.

The collision occurred eastbound on the A66 at Stainmore, between Brough and Bowes, at around 4.30pm yesterday, August 1.

It involved a yellow Fiat Panda and a white Nissan Qashqai.

The driver of the Fiat Panda, a 31-year-old woman from the local area, suffered serious injuries and was flown to the James Cook Hospital in Newcastle.

The driver of the Nissan was treated for minor injuries at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

The road was closed for a number hours whilst a forensic collision investigation and recovery was carried out. The road reopened shortly after 12.30am today, August 2.

Anyone with any information or who witnessed the collision is asked to contact PC 1947 ROSS or Sergeant 1962 VICKERS on 101 or email [email protected] quoting log 174 of the 1st August 2022.
