Two of Cumbria’s three teams contesting the FA Cup have made progress in the FA Cup competition.
Kendal Town won 3-1 at Thornaby while Carlisle City were 2-1 winners at West Auckland Town.
The only casualties were Penrith who were beaten 2-0 at home by West Allotment Celtic.
Kendal were all square 0-0 at Northern League hosts Thornaby at half-time but won the game in a fine second-half performance which saw them go three goals clear.
They took the lead on 59 minutes after great work by Steve Yawson who won the ball in midfield and found Finley Lynch on the edge of the box. He wasted no time in rifling a strong shot past the home keeper.
The second goal came on 74 minutes and stemmed from a defensive mix-up. Ben Thomas robbed the centre back, after he had received then ball from his keeper, and then fired home.
Victory was assured nine minutes later when substitute Chilufya played in Tom Kilifin and he had all the time he needed to fire home the third.
Thornaby did reduce the arrears in injury time but it was a mere consolation as Kendal earned themselves a trip to Bishop Auckland in the preliminary round on August 20.
Carlisle City now face a trip to Goole Town after their win at West Auckland and will face a side buoyant after a very good home win over Consett.
Playing in the FA Cup for the first time in 42 years they fell behind early on but were level by half-time. Sam Atkinson got on the end of a long clearance to steer in the equaliser.
Skipper Josh Simpson fired the winner early in the second-half from a well-placed free-kick.
Penrith’s 2-0 defeat to West Allotment meant the eagerly anticipated preliminary round derby with Workington Reds now won’t happen. Danny Grainger’s side will now travel to play Celtic on August 20.
Michael Chopra did not make his expected debut for West Allotment but they won with two first-half goals.
