Whitehaven fell short at Sheffield, going down 38-26 after leading 15 minutes from the end.
The turning point came on 64 minutes when Haven’s Liam McAvoy was sent to the sin bin for a late shot on Vila Halafihi.
The Cumbrians had just gone ahead 26-24 after they had trailed 14-12 at the break.
From the subsequent penalty Sheffield scored through AnthonyThackeray with Josh Guzdek adding the conversion.
Mikey Wood scored a try on 74 minutes for an eight point lead and although Haven were back to full strength for the closing stages it was Sheffield who scored the final try through Cory Aston.
Thackeray had given Sheffield the lead early in the game before Haven came back to lead with a nicely taken try by Andrew Bulman which was converted by Nikau Williams.
A break from Will Evans on 25 minutes split the Sheffield defence and Bulman finished off for his second try, again converted by Williams.
There was a big finish to the half for Sheffield and two tries before the break by Ryan Johnson and Kris Welham, one converted by Guzdek gave the Eagles a narrow half-time advantage.
The home side stretched their lead early in the second half through Tom Holmes and Guzdek converted.
It was suddenly 24-12 when Matty Chrimes charged over for an unconverted try, and that sparked a fine Haven recovery.
Skipper Karl Dixon and McAvoy both got over and then it was the captain again who scored his second try to edge them back in front at 26-24.
Unfortunately the sin-binning proved crucial and Sheffield finished the stronger to complete the double over the Cumbrians.
