
Sporting organisations across Cumbria have been awaiting news from their own governing bodies as to what happens over the weekend.
First indication came from the Rugby Football League to say that the game at all levels would go ahead.
That includes the amateur community game as well as Championship rugby involving Whitehaven tomorrow, at home to Newcastle Thunder.
Barrow play London Broncos and Workington Town visit York City Knights on Sunday.
On the amateur scene Wath Brow, Barrow Island and Seaton Rangers are all involved in National Conference play-off games tomorrow.
Rugby Union will also go ahead across the country with Cumbrian teams involved at various levels.
The games taking place tomorrow will be marked by a minute’s silence beforehand.
However football at Premier League level and below will not be played.
This weekend’s Premier League and English Football League fixtures have been postponed as a mark of respect.
Ten top-flight matches were scheduled across Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
In the EFL, games were due to take place on Friday and Saturday so in League Two, the fixtures involving Carlisle United at Harrogate and Barrow home to Colchester, have been postponed.
It also means that football at National League and below have also been called off.
Workington’s FA Trophy tie with Runcorn Linnets will be rearranged while so too will be League dates for Kendal Town, Carlisle City, Penrith, Cleator Moor Celtic, Holker Old Boys and Whitehaven as well as the Cumberland County League.
West Cumbrian speedway star Dan Bewley will be able to bid for a third successive Grand Prix win tomorrow. The Danish Grand Prix will go ahead with Bewley lying third in the placings.
However British Speedway has confirmed that as a mark of respect to the Queen there will be no racing in the UK this weekend.
Meetings scheduled for Edinburgh on Friday, Leicester on Saturday, and Redcar and Kent on Sunday have been postponed, and rearranged dates will be announced in due course.
Cumbria Cricket League has announced that clubs should continue to prepare to play tomorrow.
A League briefing said: “As a mark of respect we ask that there is a minute’s silence before all games, clubs fly their flags at half-mast if possible and players and officials wear black armbands if they so wish.”
The Hound Trailing Association has an executive meeting tonight to discuss Sunday’s meeting at Shap and beyond after calling off tomorrow’s trails at Eskdale.
The Cumbria Combine will go ahead with their final pigeon race tomorrow from Cheltenham.
The sport had close ties with Her Majesty. She was patron of the Royal Pigeon Racing Association and had her own lofts.
