After eight years of notable service to Workington Town their captain Jamie Doran is going home!
Doran, 27, has signed for his home-town club Whitehaven after nearly a decade in the professional ranks.
The half back, who can also operate at hooker or loose forward, has been courted by Whitehaven before but had previously stayed loyal to their Derwent Park neighbours.
Having come through the Wigan academy ranks he made his debut for the Warriors in a derby defeat against St Helens going on to make one further appearance for the Warriors that season.
Since then he has made 186 appearances for Workington Town since 2015 and played a big part in the side’s 2021 play-off success which saw them compete in the Championship last season.
Doran, who played his junior rugby at Kells and also at St Benedict’s RU club, was a member of the Cumbria squad which beat Jamaica 28-12 at Derwent Park on Friday.
Whitehaven’s press release announcing the capture of Doran said: “The club would once again like to thank Shaun Drinkwater, Simon Taylor and the Vice President’s for their time, dedication and efforts in their fundraising to support us and making the signing happen.

“A massive thank you to the supporters who back these individuals and groups in their fund-raising efforts and help us to take the field.
Whitehaven fans had an indication of the signing earlier in the day when Town tweeted: “Jamie Doran has made the decision to move on from our club to continue to play in the Championship.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank him for his long service and leadership here at Town and wish him and his family all the very best for the future.”
